Come to this powerful display of t-shirts created by past and present members of the PSU community. The Clothesline Project is in its 13th year in New Hampshire. The purpose of the Clothesline Project is to give voice to the painful experiences of sexual assault, domestic abuse, and child abuse in our communities that are often shrouded in secrecy and treated like “dirty laundry”. Help break the silence surrounding violence in our communities by viewing this year\’s Clothesline Project display and perhaps pinning your own t-shirt to the clothesline.

Speaker: John Allen, Adjunct Faculty, Plymouth State University
The current emphasis on renewable energy has its roots in the 1974 Oil Shortage, which precipitated much discussion concerning alternative energy sources and the reduction of dependence on fossil fuels as well as consideration of environmental impacts. This seminar will explore comparisons between the energy pictures of 1974 and the present as well as within the U.S. and abroad. What has changed since then? What are the technological improvements that now make some of the formerly far -fetched energy alternatives practical? Have we squandered the last 30 years after the “wake-up call”? Topics emphasized include Peak Oil, the renewable energy resources, as well as the impact of policy non-decisions.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information visit the Center for Environment.

One of China’s most recognized pro-democracy advocates, Mr. Xu Wenii spent 16 years in prison for his activities as a dissident. He was a leader in the Democracy Wall movement from 1979 to 1981, edited the samizdat-style journal April Fifth Forum, and played a major role in establishing the Beijing-Tianjin branch of the China Democracy Party. Mr. Xu’s health suffered while in prison. In reaction to his declining condition, international human rights groups, the U.S. ambassador to China, and Western officials called for his release. The Chinese government finally relented and released him on medical grounds in December 2002. He and his wife left China immediately for the United States to be reunited with their daughter, Xu Jin, who lives in Rhode Island.

This event is free and open to the public, but advanced reservations are recommended.
