Karl Drerup Art Gallery

Karl Drerup EnamelPlymouth State University will honor the innovation and creativity of painter and enamelist Karl Drerup with a comprehensive exhibition, Enchanted Garden, Enamels by an American Master, opening August 15 at the campus gallery that was named in his honor.

Drerup’s imagery reflects the sacred qualities of all life; and men, women and animals at home in nature. Enchanted Garden, Enamels by an American Master will present a great educational and cultural opportunity at Plymouth State University. Education programs for area school children will be developed and special gallery programs and talks will expand upon areas of the exhibition.

Additional information about the exhibition and gallery talks can be found on the Drerup Exhibition web site.

Hi. I helped install the show. It looks fabulous. You should come see it, and then tell Catherine to pay me more.

The exhibition is beautiful! My favorite is the enamel on steel – the colors are so vibrant. The video of Karl really adds to the display, and, along with the stories from Karl’s family, reveals the depth of his devotion to art and teaching. It would be wonderful to have the space for portions of this exhibition to be on permanent display. Thanks.

Enchanted Garden truly makes Drerup Gallery glow. The printed images are beautiful, but can only hint at the power of the works themselves. For those of us who have been at Plymouth State for some time, the Drerup legacy means so much more now that there is a comprehensive exhibition of his work to study. Thanks to Oliver Drerup and the other collectors who let us bring this exhibition “home to Plymouth State University.” And congratulations to all who have worked to make this exhibition possible. This is another “Plymouth Best.”

I had a chance you to meet Karl through Louise and George Hauser. I visited with Karl at his house in NH. I was always struck by his honesty, integrity, and his love for his wife. I never met her but Karl would always share stories with me about her.

I have since remained friends with the Hausers over the years. They are both very caring people. I decided to go back to school and receive my MBA PT thru PSU. It is wonderful to know that the PSU family honor’s Karl. He would be so proud and of course smiling………..God bless Karl………………

I worked with Catherine on the initial plans for this show back in 2003/2004 when I was the gallery fellow, and I can’t wait to see it the next time I’m in Plymouth. I’m glad to hear that it’s been well recieved by the campus and community. Congratulations on achieving this milestone.

    Cheers,

    Tim.

My family used to live in Thornton, NH and my sister and I had the distinct honor of visiting with Mr. Drerup on numerous occasions. Being in junior high school myself, I had little inkling of his artisitc talents, but was drawn in by his warmth, charm, courtesy and humility. A gracious man by all accounts. I remember his smile and his laughter as well as the gentle way he cherished his work and his wife’s memory.

I am sorely disappointed to have discovered this showing a week late, especially when I was a stone’s throw from Plymouth while it was running.
