Frost Commons, Robert Frost House

pwp.gifNew Hampshire’s site of The National Writing Project, the Plymouth Writing Project, will host five authors in its annual summer institute. Visiting authors will read from their works, answer questions about their writing, the publishing process and lead the participants in writing exercises that can be transferred to the classroom.

Liz Ahl, chair of the English Department at PSU, teaches poetry and creative writing. She has published poetry in various literary magazines, including Prairie Schooner, Crab Orchard Review and The American Voice. Ahl, the 2005 Theo Kalikow Award recipient given annually to honor a faculty or staff member who has contributed significantly to the advancement of women’s issues, also serves as an advisor to AWARE (Alliance for Women’s Awareness Rights and Equality).

Heritage Commons

Humanitarian Bo Lozoff will give a motivational speech July 18th at noon in Heritage Commons on the campus of Plymouth State University.

Bo Lozoff and wife Sita are the co-founders of the Human Kindness Foundation and its award winning Prison Ashram Project. Bo’s first book, We’re All Doing Time, is now in its 13th printing and was hailed by the Village Voice as “one of the ten books everyone in the world should read.” The book has been lauded by prison staff and prisoners alike as one of the most helpful books ever written for true self-improvement and rehabilitation.

Lozoff’s PSU appearance is part of a tour of prison visits, public talks and playing music in every state in the country. The event is free and open to the public.

The Silver Center for the Arts hosts professional actors from the Papermill Theatre in Lincoln throughout the summer, to present their repertoire of children’s stories adapted for the stage.

Our last Red Sox game at Fenway for the season.

In order to provide all alumni equal access to these great events, the Office of Alumni Relations will be conducting a random drawing to determine who is eligible to purchase tickets to these games. There will be a pregame event at Jillians from 5-7 pm. This is where you will come to get your tickets and enjoy some food and good times with fellow alumni. This event is sponsored by the PSUAA.

Janna Malamud Smith, a writer and psychotherapist, is the author of three books, Private Matters (1997), A Potent Spell (2003), and My Father is a Book: A Memoir of Bernard Malamud (2006). Her articles and essays have appeared nationally and internationally in newspapers, magazines and literary journals including The New York Times, The International Herald Tribune, The Christian Science Monitor, Family Circle and The Threepenny Review.
