October is national Domestic Violence Awareness month and the S.A.G.E. Center will be hosting a display of the Clothesline Project to “air out” the truth about domestic violence in our community. The purpose of the Clothesline Project, which is part of a national endeavor, is to increase awareness of the impact of domestic and sexual violence, to celebrate a victim’s strength to survive, and to provide an important avenue for survivors to courageously break the silence. This truly powerful exhibit brings a clearer understanding of the abuse and neglect suffered by women, men, children, and family members on a daily basis within our communities.
The Clothesline Project is a visual display of t-shirts hanging on a clothesline with messages and illustrations that have been designed by survivors of domestic and sexual violence, or by friends and/or family members of survivors. The Clothesline Project may also contain shirts made to honor victims who died as a result of violence.
T-shirt decorating stations will be set up for anyone who would like to create a Clothesline Project t-shirt for future displays.
For more information please contact Erin Creley 535-2387. This event is open to everyone.
