Penelope Barrett, a printmaker from Vermont, documents the consequences of war as displayed in the daily news, in the tradition of Goya, Daumier, and Posada. Her depictions of military brutality leave no doubt about her view of the deceit of political leaders. In addition, Bennett’s etchings on industrial themes expresses the isolation that the individual experiences in today’s industrialized world. The images of naked flesh against steel pipes carries an implicit message of the toxicity to humankind in today’s industrialized society.

Karl Drerup Art Gallery

Standing On One Foot is an exhibition that presents the human figure to create a poetic spark.  Artists are Kim Heejung, Lauren O’Neal, Jedediah Morfit, and Barbara Grad.

The Vagina Monologues is a short play based on true stories that women all over the world have gone through.  All proceeds will go to New Beginnings, a domestic violence prevention center.   Sponsored by SAGE and AWARE.  

$5 admission with PSU ID, $8 without ID, $10 at the door.  Discount tickets are only available at the Silver Center Box Office until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27.  Tickets will NOT be sold at the Box Office from February 28 through March 1.

Maria Flook has published two novels, Family Night and Open Water, as well as a book of short stories, You Have the Wrong Man, and a memoir, My Sister Life: The Story of My Sister’s Disappearance. Her most recent book is Invisible Eden: A Story of Love and Murder on Cape Cod. Her work has appeared in numerous anthologies and magazines including The New Yorker; The New York Times Book Review; BOMB; and The New Criterion. She is a Writer-in-Residence at Emerson College.

Opening Event March 5, 4-6 p.m.
PSU students from any major who are taking courses in the art department are invited to submit work to be juried for this annual show. Jurors are professionals from the fields of art education, graphic design, and studio art. This exhibition provides the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of PSU students and invites them to become cultural emissaries as exhibiting artists.

Fireplace Lounge of the Hartman Union Building

The Catholic and United Campus Ministries will mark the anniversary of the war in Iraq with “Meditations on Peace and War.”  This annual event, which is open to the public, is held as close as possible to the March 19 anniversary date. The solemn event, which lasts for 45 minutes, will feature students, faculty, and staff reading poems, letters, and reflections about the horror of war and the beauty of peace.  Readings will be interspersed with meditative music.
