Silver Center for the Arts

Opening Reception February 8, 4-6 p. m. The annual Friends of the Arts juried exhibition honors imaginative and skillful work by students in secondary schools in central and northern New Hampshire. The exhibition includes artists from public and private high schools, providing an opportunity for students and their teachers to explore and observe a wide range of media, processes, themes, and subject interpretations. 2nd Floor Ceramics Display, Draper & Maynard Building

Susan Tucker exhibits her collection of functional and non-functional hand-built boxes.  These works, created by Susan over a period of several years, explore the interplay between positive and negative shapes.  All are encouraged to visit the D&M Building during business hours (between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday) to experience this exhibition.  Pieces are available for purchase.  Please contact Susan Tucker with questions or for more information (535-2544).

Join Dr. Katherine Donahue as she explores policy issues raised by global non-governmental organizations and the Tanzanian state as it tries to regulated questionable mining practices, health and safety of workers and miners, and mining companies at Mererani.

Tanzanite is a gemstone which was discovered in the 1960s south of Mt. Kilamanjaro, Tanzania.  More rare than diamonds because their source area is limited, the gemstones reach global markets through middlemen, foreign buyers, processors, cutters, polishers, and dealers in Tanzania, India, Hong Kong, and the United States.

“Tulia, Texas” is the story of a small town’s search for justice and the price Americans pay for the war on drugs.  A lone undercover cop moves into a small farming town.  By the end of the summer of 1999,  46 people are arrested for selling cocaine, nearly all of them African American.  It was heralded as one of the biggest drug busts in Texas history, untila  team of lawyers set out to uncover the truth.  A discussion, hosted by Darly Brown, Plymouth Selectboard Member & PSU Adjunct Professor, will follow the film.
