Janet Nell came to Plymouth State in 1967 to begin a career that has left an enduring mark on both the Physical Education and athletic programs. Her impact reached far beyond the field, as she touched many students in her classroom. She also devoted many years coaching basketball, field hockey, soccer and tennis.

Janet founded the women's lacrosse program in 1968, serving as head coach until the spring of 1988.

Her role in fostering the growth of women's athletics is significant on our campus to this day. Janet was a pioneer for women in sports, a trail she blazed for many through the years. Coach Nell has remained special to all of us as coach, teacher and friend.
