PSU Dance Division presents the Contemporary Dance Ensemble in a winter performance. A variety of dance genres are represented in works by faculty and student choreographers including, tap, ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop and musical theater.

Join ETC for the a musical adventure the whole family can enjoy together.

January 27-30, 2010 at 7 p.m. and January 30 and 31 at 2 p.m.

Hanaway Theatre, Silver Center for the Arts at Plymouth State University

ETC is an inspiring and innovative arts education program.

Each January, after four weeks of intensive rehearsals, PSU faculty, staff, students, and members of the Plymouth community appear in a full scale musical production on the main stage of the Silver Center for the Arts. Along with its annual production, ETC offers a one day arts festival for children, an integrated arts conference for teachers, a character luncheon and a regional children’s art display.

The Grammy Award–winning Ying Quartet occupies an unmistakable position of international prominence in the classical music world. No one comes out alone. This one-act play portrays the hilarious and poignant relationship between a Jewish mother and her gay son. The play is based on the conversations that writer/actor Jeffrey Solomon had with his mother, and follows the mother’s struggles to accept her son’s homosexuality and to come out to herself as the mother of a gay man.

This production contains mature language and subject matter.

Eagle Pond Authors’ Series: Galway Kinnell

During a career in poetry that spans five decades and 12 collections, Galway Kinnell has received the Pulitzer Prize, a National Book Award, the Frost Medal, and a MacArthur Fellowship. In the nomination for the 2003 National Book Award, the judges called Kinnell, “America’s preeminent visionary” whose work “greets each new age with rapture and abundance [and] sets him at the table with his mentors: Rilke, Whitman, Frost.” He is currently a Chancellor of The Academy of American Poets and lives in Vermont.

All readings are free and followed by a reception and book signing.

An accomplished poet and pianist, Oni Buchanan is the author of Spring, selected by Mark Doty for the 2007 National Poetry Series. The book includes a Flash-animation CD of her large-scale kinetic poem, The Mandrake Vehicles which she will perform at this reading. She holds a BA in English and music from the University of Virginia, an MFA in poetry from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and a master’s degree in piano performance from the New England Conservatory of Music.

All readings are free and followed by a reception and book signing.

John McDermott started his professional singing career in his own band and as an opening act for The Chieftains, but it was The Irish Tenors on PBS in 1999 that catapulted McDermott into an international touring and recording phenomenon and the best selling solo artist in Canada. His own PBS special, John McDermott: A Time to Remember aired in 2002 and his a cappella rendition of Danny Boy is thought by many to be the definitive performance of this iconic tune.
