Lamson Learning Commons is pleased to welcome the exhibit Nightscapes by PSU Professor Annette Mitchell. This set of 12 acrylic paintings will be on display on the main level of Lamson from June 10 - September 27.

This series of nightscape paintings in and around the Plymouth region was painted this past year. Mitchell used acrylic paint on archival paper to interpret local landmarks like Beyond the Bean Bakery in Plymouth, Main Street in Bethlehem, NH, the old High School in Ashland, NH, and Huckin’s Tractor Barn in Holderness, NH. Twelve paintings comprise the show and they demonstrate her love of sharp contrasts, a color palette in low natural light, and her appreciation for living in New Hampshire.

Annette Mitchell, Professor of Art, is known for her printmaking process using foam block prints. A book and DVD about that process is titled Foam Is Where The Art Is--New Ways To Print. However, Mitchell showed her painting skills in this series of nightscapes of the Plymouth, NH area this past year. The March/April issue of Artscope Magazine featured her sumi ink, print, and acrylic work that features well known landscape areas in New Hampshire such as Mt. Washington, The Flume, and Sculptured Rocks in Hebron, NH. Currently Mitchell has a show of the works described in Artscope Magazine at Colby-Sawyer College's Marian Mugar Graves Art Center in New London, NH through August.
